You can register your child for kindergarten for the next school year beginning on March 1, 2024. Visit the registration page for more information. Once you have registered online, you can either email or use traditional mail to send in your child's registration paperwork to the ABECC, including a picture of their birth certificate and address verification. Please send copies not originals. Please send paperwork to our ABECC secretary below:

North Andover offers a tuition-free Kindergarten. We’re a full day Kindergarten program. Placement is based on neighborhood. Information about the 2024-2025 school year is TBD.

The average class size in kindergarten is between 20-24 children. There are 2 adults in each classroom.

Each kindergarten classroom is staffed by a qualified teacher and teaching assistant. Special subjects and special education services will be provided by qualified and certified teachers.

Classrooms will be balanced so that each group of children represents children from all 5 elementary schools. This way when children transition to first grade they will know other children at their neighborhood school. Both parents/guardians and sending preschools will have input into the transition process. We also want to make sure that the social/emotional and academic needs of all children are met. Our goal is to build classroom communities that work well together throughout the kindergarten year.

Please check  the ABECC Calendar for dates as they become available. Transition and orientation information will be sent to families of registered kindergarten children over the summer.

Yes, kindergarten students will have opportunities to engage in physical education, music, art, and library.

Children can order lunch from our food services department or bring lunch from home. In a regular school year, children will eat together in the cafeteria. Due to Covid regulations, children currently eat at home.  Details regarding the school lunch program will be reviewed at orientation before the start of school and then by the classroom teacher. The Anne Bradstreet Early Childhood Center school has a full-time nurse who works with Food Services and classroom teachers to ensure the safety of any child with food allergies. You should alert the school nurse about your child’s allergies prior to the start of kindergarten.

Recess will take place on the playground between the ABECC and Atkinson School.

Yes, there is an ABECC PTO in place.

Yes, kindergarten children will receive age-appropriate enrichment programming. 

Each classroom as well as the library has Chromebooks. Each kindergarten classroom has a smart projector and document camera installed.

We encourage and welcome parents to frequently connect with their child’s teacher. There are many opportunities for families to connect with school personnel. Once the school year is up and running your child’s teacher will notify you about what is the best way to communicate with them (email, phone call, written notes, etc.)

Both before and after school programs are offered. Staff are made up of Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Noon attendants, college students and high school students. The ratio is 1/13. There is a list of suggested read-aloud books on the kindergarten web page: Books to read to Kindergarteners. In addition, the children’s librarian at Stevens Memorial Library will be happy to help you find some appropriate books.

There is a parent/guardian conference with the teacher in November. The kindergarten report card will be sent home in February and again at the end of the school year. Your child’s teacher will notify you if there are any concerns about your child’s learning and skill development. Kindergarten teachers frequently communicate with families to let you know how your child is doing in school.
